Chen Style Tai Chi: New Frame I
Leung Martial Arts is offering a course on Chen Tai Chi, using the New Frame I routine as the basis for instruction. This is a 30 hour course, divided into twelve 2.5 hour long workshops.
Each workshop is held on the last Saturday of the odd-numbered months. The course includes learning the routine, discussion on structure and energy of the movements and applications. The participants will learn a small section of the routine in each workshop. Master Leung will use selected moves to discuss the energy of the moves and relate it to internal art training. During the course he will also discuss some applications to clarify the significance of some moves. These discussions will help students to understand the optimum alignment of the body in order to make each movement efficient. Two person applications are kept to a minimum.
Upon completion of the whole course, each participant will be issued a certificate of completion. If a participant misses a workshop, they can make it up by doing a personal class with Master Leung or one of his senior instructors if they want to learn that section.

Yang Style Tai Chi: Broadsword
By request, Master David Leung will be teaching the Yang style broadsword. A fourth generation student of Grandmaster Yang Chen Fu, Master David Leung has been practicing Yang style Tai Chi for the past 47 years. Master David Leung studied with Grandmaster Leung King Yu, a very famous Tai Chi practitioner in China during the early fifties.
Being one of the few people teaching Tai Chi in Eugene during the early seventies, Master Leung became well known among top level masters both in China and America. He was asked and had accepted the position of Vice President representing America for the World Wide Association for Internal Martial Arts and also the honorary presidential post of Tsang Cheuk Yi Chen Style Taiji & Southern Shaolin Damo Assocition.
In the past, the Yang style broadsword was only taught to students that had studied the martial arts for many years. Only practitioners that had mastered the empty hand forms and the straight sword were taught the broadsword. The Yang style broadsword form became a rare gem because most people did not study the art long enough to learn it. There are only a small percentage of Yang Tai Chi practitioners in America that know and teach the broadsword form.
This is a four workshop series, one and half hours each. They are held once every two months, on the last Saturday of the odd-numbered months following the Chen Tai Chi series. Due to class size limitation, please call to register in advance.
Where: The workshop will be held at Leung Martial Arts 1331 West 7th Avenue Eugene, OR 97402
When: November 28th, 2009; January 30th , 2010, March 27th, 2010, May 29th, 2010.
Time: 4:30pm-6:00pm
Cost: $35/session. $120 for the whole series. Active studio member discount available.
